The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana at the University of Cape Coast (GRASAG-UCC) was founded in 1993 with the goal of uniting postgraduate students and addressing their specific academic, social, and welfare needs. The association emerged at a time when there was a growing recognition of the importance of creating a platform to advocate for the rights and interests of graduate students, who often faced challenges distinct from their undergraduate counterparts.
Mr. Isaac M.D. Barnor, the first president of GRASAG-UCC, laid the foundation for an organized body that would provide leadership, direction and support for graduate students. Under his leadership, the association began to work with the university's administration to ensure that graduate students were represented in decision-making processes that affected their academic and social life. His tenure set the precedent for a strong advocacy role, focusing on academic excellence, student welfare and promoting graduate studies.
Over the years, GRASAG-UCC has evolved into a vibrant and influential body within the University of Cape Coast. It plays roles in shaping policies related to postgraduate education and ensures that the concerns of graduate students are addressed by the university management.
GRASAG-UCC continues to uphold its mission of promoting the welfare and academic success of its members. The association is actively involved in organizing various academic and professional development programs aimed at enhancing the capabilities of its members including research seminars, workshops on data analysis and academic writing, collaborations with School of Graduate Studies to streamline thesis submission, examination, and feedback, support services through the Samuel and Emelia Brew-Butler-SGS/GRASAG, UCC Research Fund as well as Student Financial Support Service, UCC (STUFSO).
With a focus on fostering academic excellence, GRASAG-UCC remains committed to the development of graduate students to ensure that they are equipped with the skills and support needed to thrive in their academic and professional pursuits.
